Whole Foods project continues to move forward
Click the image above for more views On Tuesday, March 27, the City Council unanimously denied the appeal filed on the latest Design Review decision on design details (The base elements of location, size, and retail/residential mix were finalized over a year ago, in December 2005 after a lengthy review process and public commentary.) Thanks to all who wrote emails to the council or came to the meeting! There are more design decisions to finalize (colors, final material choices, landscaping, etc.) so stay tuned! NHFC Endorses Assembly Bill 90 We are pleased to announce our first legislative endorsement! As a result of a unanimous vote by NHFC members in our recent poll, we are supporting this important bill, proposed by Assembly members Huffman and Lieu, to prohibit sale or serving of trans fats in our K-12 public schools. 2007 Novato farmers market extendS hours Thanks to the efforts of our steering committee member, Alice Dow, who encouraged community members to email the Farmer’s Market board, the Novato Farmers Market is open from 4:oo—8:00pm this year! We’re proud of the accomplishments the NHFC membership has achieved together so far (attracting TJ’s and Whole Foods, as well as working with Apple Market to improve grocery options in Novato, piloting the school food Lunch Buddies project, and more.) But we’re definitely not done! We’re gearing up for several New Projects. If you’re interested in getting more involved, but haven’t been sure where to start, it’s a great opportunity go help shape one or more activities to further improve the health of our community. A few of the subcommittees we’d like to form include: Healthy Kids Restaurant Menus Initiative Classroom "Healthy Food is Fun" Talks (pilot program) School Fundraising Alternatives Improving Healthy Lifestyle Options Downtown These are just a few of the ideas taking shape within the steering committee...and we need volunteers to help turn these ideas into reality. Please fill out our Activities Survey to let us know if you are interested in one or more of these initiatives...or offer ideas of your own! Our mission The Novato Healthy Food Coalition (NHFC) is a non-partisan, grassroots community organization. Our mission is to encourage the availability and variety of healthy lifestyle choices in our local community. The NHFC aims to work with the community, merchants, schools, and the City of Novato to gather information, educate, and provide feedback that will lead to healthy options that meet the needs of Novato today. Check out our Activities Page for more information on our efforts, and to learn what you can do! |
